Hi,

I have searched the forum for this info but must be sure before I make the purchase. Is it possible to change the original non-fingerprint w510 palmrest with a fingerprint t510 one, will it fit perfectly and will the fingerprint reader work?

Thanks

Tercio

It should fit just fine.

There are two types of palm rests though, those for use with models with a SmartCard slot, and ones for models without.

Both palmrests should fit though.

Thank you, but is there a connector on the w510 motherboard for the fingerprint flat cable? Oh and by the way, how do I find which smart card reader driver model do I have on my w510? the Contactless model or the smartcard standard model? Neither one installs without forcing the driver instalation...

Best Regards

The FPR cable is part of the touchpad cable that connects to the motherboard.
Check in the Device Manager for your card reader details.

Using the warranty depot for replacement of my W510 palmrest because the touchpad and fingerprint reader didn't work resulted in the unit coming back with a palmrest with the color optimization sensor. When I called the support number, the explanation was that the original palmrest was "out of stock" so they used the optional part instead...I asked if that color hardware would work with my machine, even tough it didn't have it to begin with. The rep said he really didn't know the answer to that, but I pressed the issue. He said: give it a try! So I did. I downloaded the Huey color optimization software, rebooted and what do you know? I now have an option I didn't have previously. If I had not called them to report that the replacement palmrest was not the same as the original and called support to ask if it would work, I never would have known it might work through a simple software download; so that's my experience--FWIW

All Color sensor hardware laptop modules are mounted into the palmrest and connects to laptop via palmrest connector. Count yourself lucky that you got about a $50. free upgrade. I use my CS in my Adobe programs and it frequently makes a difference on print quality.
