W520 – which battery? (eBay...)

Hello again :)

I'm looking for a new 9 cell battery and I want it cheap. Mine has 73.29 Wh remaining capacity after 57 cycles and 3 years (my machine was previously used mostly on AC power...that's why it looks almost new :) )

I would prefer genuine or a really good brand.

Any experience with this seller and a battery? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Batte ... 1e76b6ec6b

...it looks like some kind of a production sapmple according to a sticker. And if it is fake and it can be proven, it would be free thanks to eBay buyer protection :) But I would prefer a genuine.

If the seller has so much positive feedback... I tend to trust 'm, unless it's rather obvious.

I think they all go down pretty fast in capacity. Mine sits at 75 Whr after 154 cycles: almost never fully charged, never fully discharged; not even 2 years old.

I wouldn't expect a new one to stay above 80 Whr for a year...

Feedback doesn't say much because people just don't care. I once bought a HTC charger from a seller with great feedback and reviews...and it was sooo fake with smeared printing and having only 2/3 weight of the original :)

After contacting the seller, he stated that chargers he's selling come from a reputable HK telco operator. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was true, I guess in Asia there are fakes just everywhere.

If you buy a genuine Lenovo branded battery, you usually won't go wrong. If you buy a compatible, don't buy the cheapest and buy from Ebay" experienced seller" with over 99.3% positive feedback. you recommend you view their feedback to read what buyers had to say and if many neg recent feedbacks. I've bought both ways. That's the best advice i can give.

If a battery is good the first month and dies quickly after that... no way to tell from the eBay feedback, since you can only give feedback in a short time windows after the transaction.

My two-yr-old W520 has a Panasonic and it still seems to run almost as long on battery as when it was new:

Design capacity: 93.96
Full charge capacity: 90.87
Cycle count: 90
Manufacture date: 2011-08-09
First used date: 2012-09

Maybe the manufacturer makes a difference. My experience has been that Sanyo batteries lose their ability to hold charge faster than panasonics.

It has been posted many times over, that all decent Lenovo batteries use Panasonic cells.
I have 6- and 9-cell Pana batteries dating back from 2008/2009, most of which still have around 90% of their orig. capacity, some even with over 400 cycles!

Couldn't find any Panasonics :( So I've ended up with LG. I'll see how it will do.

But according to this it should be OK:

...and it was cheap, just a few weeks old and in a Lenovo sealed box. I love eBay...
