hi fellow thinkers,

I recently spilled a small amount of tea on my w520 near the colour sensor (which has been blocked off as option was not choosen). I'm still using it with no troubles. Is the colour sensor totally blocked off or is possible that liquid hsa gone through.

My regards,

It might be possible that some liquid to seep through, but you would have to remove the palmrest to be sure. Since everything is still working fine, maybe no liquid got through?

It's pretty much totally blocked off. They screw that thing in pretty tightly.

Though it is possible that some got through, it probably would have been stopped by the structural frame (the motherboard is below it).

There's also a 'blank space' (no connectors) on the board itself near that location, so if the board was going to get wet that would be the best possible location.

Just pop the palmrest off and look underneath it and at the metal frame underneath. If enough got through to drip off, you'd see a trail. You can use isopropyl alcohol to clean the board if the liquid infiltrated that far- or just use a wet/soapy paper towel for the other parts like I'm assuming you did for the top of the palmrest.
