W510 web camera is not working.

So the other day I've tried making a skype video call, and found out I had no camera present neither in Device manager, neither in BIOS (Security- > I/O Port Access -> Integrated Camera -> ).
I've already tried the written hacks with disabling the USB on and off, tried to find the camera in BIOS to check it's status, but still no luck.
I still cannot understand what possibly could be wrong.
Suggestions?

How do you know you have a camera?

Well
I've been using it with skype in the past. But last time I've tried - it just didn't appear - neither in skype, neither in Device Manager, neither in BIOS.
Therefore I'm trying to gather more info if someone had a similar problem.
Maybe I forgot to mention: Machine type is:
4391-E38

The original config of your W510 had a camera:
Code: Select all
ThinkPad W510 4391E38
i7-720QM(1.6GHz) 4GB RAM 320GB 7200rpm HD 15.6in 1600x900 LCD 1GB nVIDIA Quadro FX 880M CDRW/DVDRW Intel 802.11agn wireless WWAN option Modem 1Gb Ethernet UltraNav Secure Chip Camera 9c Li-Ion Win7 Pro 64
A camera is easy to spot, it's on the top of the screen, in the middle of the bezel...

Well, it's either:
1. The camera's connector has come loose, or
2. the camera itself has died (it happens).

I've been measuring with a voltmeter if some signals are coming to the camera connector and nothing found there, so I assume it could be the cable.
But it is quite strange the all four cables don't measure any voltage at all - I mean that it is quite strange to have all four cables teared down at once.
Further it is strange to have all those four cables disconnected and have the thinklight and lid sensor working perfectly.
