W520 HD

Will a 1TB HD work in my W520 64 bit windows 7 thinkpad,and will i have to use different rubber rail?

It should, but depending on the make. Pull out your drive and take a look and see if it's 7mm, 9.5mm or more. I'd bet that it's a 9.5mm, which is standard. Then just look at the various 1Tb drives and see which ones are the same height. Go over to Newegg go to the internal hard drives, use their "narrow your choices" tool on the left; check 2.5" and 9.5mm. That should give you a list of drives of the size that'll fit your machine.

You can get separate 7mm rubber rails, but if your HD bay is 9.5mm, you need to add some filling material between HD and bay, to stop the HD from 'wobbling'.
Doing that, you can still keep using your 9.5mm rubber rails.

Thanks for that,but will i have a problem with it operating on my machine.will it run and operate?

The rubber rails and any 'padding' are only there to protect your hard disk or SSD.
Assuming the drive is of a decent quality, it should work without any problem.
You might consider an (80-128GB) mSATA drive in your WWAN slot, to install windows on, and use the 1TB drive strictly for storage.
