W510 stopped charging!

Hello,

I leave my laptop plugged in at night to charge for work. This morning I unplugged it, put it in my briefcase, and took it to work. It was fully charged. I opened it up, plugged it in at work, and started using it.

Then I noticed that the plugged in and charging icon was not present. I tried several different outlets, restarting, resetting the battery, and nothing worked.

When I got home I tried my outlet at home, and it still wouldn't charge. I don't think there is anything wrong with the battery, since it held a full charge. However, something happened where it will not charge anymore. Is it possible that the charger died suddenly? Is there a circuit which could have gotten disconnected? What could case it to stop working like this?

Remove both battery and charger.
Then hold down the Power button for about 20 seconds (this does a laptop-reset).
Now put in only the charger and see if you can boot.

Okay, I tried to perform a reset twice but got no response. I did not hear a beep or see any lights.

Also, the laptop will not boot with just the charger in. No lights come on with just the charger in.

Can you try another charger?
Standard 90W/20V should do.

Mine came with a 135W and it has an extra large battery for the quad core.

I don't have another charger. I will have to order a new one, but I am not really sure that is the problem. I worry that something came loose inside the laptop. It is about four years old so it's possible something could be wrong, but I have no idea what.

Trying a different charger is the easiest and cheapest thing to do, though. You can probably find someone with a similar charger and borrow it for a second. Even a 90W will work, as a temporary solution, as RBS mentioned. Now if that doesn't work, then you can think about messing with the insides of the machine.
