W520: Recovery media?

Hello,

I thought I'd make the recovery disks and then reset the laptop to factory default. However, when I tried to do so, it says that it can't do that because it says "unable to find files for recovery media". The trouble is that when I look at the Q drive, the recovery partition, it says there "6.3 gb free of 15.6". Which tells me that there are things inside it. But if I try to open the drive(explore), I see nothing inside! I am confused now.

What can I do now? I want to do a factory reset.

no one?

Anyway, when I press the blue ThinkVantage button at start up, it takes me to recovery menu. One of the options there is "Lenovo recovery". It says that it will do a factory default reset of my machine (including hard drive contents). I didn't try it out though.

If you run the recovery from the hard drive, once you have the original install back, you will be able to create one set of recovery disks. Once you have the recovery disks, you can delete the recovery partition and use that space if you need it.

Why would you want to do a factory reset? Why go back to something bloated with trial software, beta drivers etc.? You will be better off doing a proper clean install starting with a Windows disc.

I agree

Download the correction version of your Windows 7 and install only the drivers... Make a clone of this computer using a program like Symantec Ghost or Clonezilla.

There is some usefulness in a few Lenovo programs. I like the power manager so I can set charge thresholds. Too bad they still don't allow you to set a discharge order if you use two batteries. That has kept me from buying the W520 slice battery.
