W500 and others with Intel turbo memory - UAC, WU - SOLVED

Hello,

For my W500 I bought ITM 1GB, 2GB and 4GB for speedup disk operations

After install any drivers from lenovo wbsite or intel always after installation service like UAC and windows update stop work.

probably problem is only in Windows 7 64bit EDIT this same issue on Windows 7 32bir thx for Dekks

I spend few hour to find where is problem and I found it in Intel Matrix Storage Console.

I found some different ITM drivers form HP (stand alone don't fit) an others w/o this bug and compile driver with console w/o modifying lenovo setup program.

After install all work correctly, system is speed up etc, no UAC errors and, no problems with windows update

fixed driver is here (based on lenovo w500 driver)
http://chomikuj.pl/Ad45ch/Lenovo+W500*2 ... xed+driver
but only 2 free downloads

some about ITM and limitations
1GB work only windows readyboost
2GB work windows readyboost and ReadyDrive
4GB work only windows ReadyDrive

Video how ITM work
http://youtu.be/XZxRgetS4g0

p.s.
I chose 2GB module

I went through the same issue on Win 7 32bit re WU and UAC this weekend on an R61, and the fix was a earlier HP version of the matrix storage driver that corrected the digital signature issue at the heart of the problem. Probably same one you found too, just link it at end of your post. If thats not what your asking sorry, i dont understand your question 100%.

more about it

this issue I have with HGST 7k750 750GB

When I clone partition to HGST 7K500 320GB all work ok on oem driver.

Maybe disk size is problem for lenovo driver?

cheers

This is intriguing, as my T61ps both are operating without the turbo memory driver, because the one on the Lenovo site makes the O/S stop working.

The only fixes are on an HP site, stating that it is for an unrelated problem, or on an obscure Polish website? Really? Has anyone on this site actually purchased the software? The website is only in Polish, and seems to insist being paid in Euros (or Zlotnies, for all I know).

I'm interested in a solution for the intel matrix memory manager (also I think called the Intel turbo memory manager). The current "latest" posted by Lenovo for the T61p breaks the O/S.

hello, send me emai via pw
p.s.
intel turbo memory in t61p works only without 3g modem and only work in slot near fan (3g modem plece)

I set up a friend with a T400. I had a spare 2GB turbo memory module, so I figured "why not" and installed it. Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium, and zero problems with the drivers for it I got from the Intel website.

I notice problems with some large? hard disk.
my W500 in OEM spec have hitachi 7k500 320GB but I swap this to 7K750 750 GB and with this specification driver crash system.
Turbo memory generally work but, UAC stop working and system ask me for everything what I try open.
sample? proporties my computer, UAC, device manager ASK, etc

main problem is matrix storage system. Ofter swap some files from hp/compaq driver start work corectly.

clear (OEM) driver from hp/compaq don't work in my system correctly

Unless you have less than 1GB main memory the Turbo Memory Unit is completely useless. It's also a no no with any SSD or hybrid SSD HD and needs removing. These Intel TMU's do the same HD caching things as Readyboost that's built into Win7.

To test how effective one of these units is just set up a manual perf monitor profile as in the following link.

1GB RAM with W7? it's funny :D

I have 8GB Ram and intel turbo memory 2GB (universal chosie)

in this configuration you can use 1 GB for ready boost and 1GB for ready drive

cheers

like You see on my video ITM work

If you have 8GB RAM then the Intel Storage Driver will be bypassing the TMU 99.9% of the time doing nothing as will Readyboost. In those days Windows didn't cache memory as Linux did allowing at least the semblance of some usefulness with less than 1GB RAM which was common about the time these units were being sold. With more than 2GB the system memory is used as a disk cache nowadays.

Turbo Memory units were considered to be of marginal use then and several OEM's chose to pass on the technology, but like i said set up Perf Monitor and see just how many HD reads your TMU saves.

Ok. The hard drive in my friend's T400 is only a 320GB Western Digital Blue I had laying around.

First generation ITM was a complete dud, but the second generation made things work how they were supposed to. If you have a slow mechanical drive, it can help, at least theoretically according to benchmarks. It is like a really low end Apple Fusion Drive or hybrid hard disc drive. Another problem is that these things are limited to 150MB/s through a single lane PCI-E 1.0 bus.

IN THEORY for the maximum gain using this caching you need old a slow HDD [less than 5400rpm], fast BUS and the material to be cached has to be non sequential to show any benefit. Using perf monitor the only scenario that I can reproduce from my usage patterns is the odd occasion refreshing a large chunk of browser cache for some reason.

There's a whole industry serving hardware caching for high speed interconnected server farms but for personal computing it's been overtaken by Readyboost & Win 7 RAM memory caching.

So what I'm reading is that if my two T61ps have 8Gb and are running Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate 64bit, and are working without installing Lenovo's last incarnation of the ITM driver, leave things alone.

I'm going to be selling these guys anyway, so not worth the effort for me.

Thx for sharing the info, guys.

Hello,

on end topic - real source problem who stop services like, WU UAC etc...

real source is disk with emulated 512 sector (large disk)

MS know this problem and they make patch for W7 KB 982018 and etc systems
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... s.85).aspx

after install all work correctly

cheers
