Has anyone determined that the W500 supports QHD (2560x1440) on the Displayport?

Don't know, but it does work. Anything displayport should be able to output 2560x1600 afaik.

The Displayport interface can handle it, but the specific aspect ratio 2560x1440, was not in wide use (if at all!) when the driver was authored. Even if the W500 can do 2560x1600, it does not guarantee that it can do the smaller format.
So the question is open.

So what? What was the last time you had trouble with a pc not outputting a certain resolution? I would have to dig into more than 10 year old memories for that. Somewhere in the Windows 98SE time with an outdated driver?
Worst thing that can happen is that you have to add 2560x1440 as a custom resolution, which would work fine anyway.
It's not like the GPU brands keep support of 2560x1440 away from older cards that can run 2560x1600. They have never been unable to.
27" 2560x1440 is around for years. If it wasn't compatible, there would be rage all over the place.

Which driver are you talking about? Catalyst 13.9 should be able to support that.

I don't use 13.9 because it is the consumer game-optimized driver; I use the FirePro driver packaged by Lenovo, because only it allows the full functionality of the Firepro chip, which provides 10 bit resolution.

Yes. The w500 Supports this resolution. It can support 4k too, if you can switch the displayport in to 1.1 mode.
