Bad 3700M replacement

#1 Post by MSR_Steve » Sat Apr 25, 2015 3:27 pm

So as referenced in my thread a couple months back, the 3700M in my W700 is failing (works in standard VGA mode but not when installed as an actual Quadro FX 3700m).

I purchased an HP Graphic Video NVidia Quadro FX3700M 1GB NB9E GLM3 MXM G92-985-A2 488125-001 on ebay as I had seen on a couple threads around that this piece should drop into the W700 fine and function, albeit with a chance the displayport function will not work. This post https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-T ... 31/page/10 outlines the scenario with this card.

However, after getting the new card and installing it, it failed to boot. One attempt I got to the point of getting 1 long / 2 short beeps from the BIOS which seems to be the indication of a video card error / incompatibility, but most of the time when I pressed the power power, the power LED's blinked (the one that looks like a plug, and the one that is a circle with a zigzag in it), the fans spun for a moment, then nothing.

Does this mean, despite sellers listing otherwise, that it's a bad card? Any ideas of anything else I can try to use this new card?

Thanks.

A 1 long-2 short, or a black screen(maybe with backlight turning on) with power indicators and possibly even other indicators flashing normally, but no post to BIOS, are the prime symptoms of a bad video card in your W700/W700DS.

It's likely if you have the video card properly seated and the heatsink mounted just fine, that the card itself is not functional. If I recall, the W700's official FX 3700M and the one from the HP workstations share enough in common to work regardless, I believe the one in my W700DS right now is from an HP.

Actually, yep, here it is: http://i.imgur.com/lEztV2A.png Bought last year in the fall, been gaming on it and running it ragged a couple of times up to 90C, but still going strong.

So it is likely that the card you received is no good. It's tough to tell you what to do... unfortunately with no spare cards or other W700s to test(a luxury I had at the time) it's difficult to tell you to do anything else other than just request a replacement. I think it'd help if you could link us the auction or ebay listing you bought the card from...

I installed the new card twice in case it was not seated correctly and no luck. Since the original card still works when placed back in it that does seem like the new card is the issue. I have just messaged the seller seeing if they'd be willing to exchange the card, despite the "as is" listing. We'll see what happens.

It's this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Graphic-Vide ... 583156591?

Thanks.

Since the seller has a 100% feedback and has been selling on ebay since 2006. I'd be surprised if the seller wouldn't help you. Good luck. ~BOB

*sigh* Well getting the idea the seller will not be working with me. No reply in a couple days since I sent a request for an exchange, with offer to pay all shipping. However I note the listing is now changed to say no exchanges, not just no returns as it was when I bought it (it was a batch of 9 for sale, 5 have been sold so far).

Anyone know what eBay's policy on this tends to be? A claim that something is tested and working, but also sold "as is, no returns". Seems kind of contradictory.

I don't know if I can prove it's not working, but even so is not working sufficient to meet eBay's definition of "item is not as described"?

Don't know why I can't just find a way to email eBay customer service.

Should be possible to open a case and request return for refund because the item doesn't match description.
