W540 backlit keyboard work on W510?

I would like to know if the backlit W540 keyboard could be retrofitted to a W510...

No, because the W540 keyboard has an integrated numeric keypad. Other reasons why it won't work are the different way the keyboard is mounted and the different layout (you would need to remap some keys).

Also, no ThinkPads prior to *30 generation support backlit keyboards in any shape or form.
