W700 "DEMO" Machine Type ??

#1 Post by droolface » Fri Jul 03, 2015 5:29 am

Hey all. A while back picked up another W700 on ebay (another great deal). This time the machine included the wacom digitizer palmrest, so I was super excited to get my hands on it. It's great!

BUT it had some surprises on the bottom, and I'm wondering if any of you guys have any experience or have seen machines like this.

Specifically, the machine type starts with DEMO... it's DEMO 2752-38U.

The other interesting thing is it also has an asset tag from Lenovo (see pics below).

ANYONE SEEN THIS SORT OF THING BEFORE? I'm guessing this was a demo/test/beta/review unit sent out before the W700 build was fully finalized. Which of these (is it a press demo for bloggers/journalists?) it is, or if something else entirely, I don't know. Hopefully someone does, because I'm really curious.

Congrats on your new rare bird!

Yes, quite a few of us around here have seen and owned - after they were decommissioned - a garden variety of "demo" units, and some of us had them issued (not necessarily with a name tag, though) to themselves over the course of years.

IBM/Lenovo employees. Outside beta testers. Journalists. And the list of possibilities goes on...

I haven't checked who the gentleman in question actually is, but following Mike's advice and contacting him directly could possibly yield some interesting info regarding that particular system.

Good luck and enjoy that mammoth!

Nice score!

Got a pre-production XPS M1730 off a goodwill for $70 with the charger a year ago. 8)
