Replacing motherboard on dual i7 W520 to quadcore i7.

Hi does anyone know if the frame of a i7 dual core W520 could be refitted with a quadcore i7 one? I couldnt find a dual one. So I bought an i7 quadcore motherboard with cpu.

Check the heatsink/fan, there seems to be different FRU for different processors,
check that the fan heatsink's fru, and that it is compataible with 45w or not , that is assuming that the quad core processor you got has TDP of 45w, and not the 55w model.

I forgot to mention that it is coming with the heatsink, so I don't need to use mine.

Everything worked out great

It took me a while to figure out that the heat sink was warped and it took me to strip two screws to figure that out. But I replaced the screws and I have everything up and running.
