Questions on quad and dual core CPUs on quad core W520 motherboard

Suppose I find a stripped down quad core motherboard in a W520 and use spare i7-2640m CPU and other parts to complete the package. I may have able to run 2 memory sticks which I have laying around as well. Will that work in a pinch?

Sure, as many W520s shipped with the i7-2640m and two DIMMs. The QC motherboard doesn't require all four DIMM slots to be populated either.
