This post is the continuity of http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 99#p789799

The goal is to try to identify the outstanding problems that are still ongoing with this W520 display system. Here is the catch up:

I was struck by the bad rendering of the display when I received this second hand pristine condition W520. I was able to identify that the display matrix is a B156HW01 V4, known to be the best on the market. However some discrepancies were ongoing as the colours widely saturated..... After a tweak in the Intel graphic properties (Windows 10) I ended finally getting close to a rendering more natural, however just done it by eyeballing ... The hue and gamma were way off, here are the values I came up with after the tweak:

Brightness -5
Contrast 50 (original value)
Gamma 0.7
Hue 351
Saturation -36

Anyone in here can cur with this let me know

The way it's going, methinks your problem is W10 with its miserable (lack of) drivers.

Interesting point

Driver version: Intel Corporation - 9.17.10.4229 - 26/05/2015

2 drivers missing in the device manager, still ignored by vantage system update:

- "PCI Serial Port": PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3D&SUBSYS_21CF17AA&REV_04

After a research on the net it seems like this one is indeed related to a display issue however it is still not known why this driver is still hanging lose even after a fresh W10 install and a though run of system update.

The suspens still stands

Is there anything you need Windows 10 specifically for? W7 runs very well on these machines with very few issues. Even better, switch to Linux Mint Debian and virtually everything is auto configured for you. There is a lot less bloatware and no need for anti-virus to suck up resources. Additionally, you get tons of customization capabilities.

W10 is a lot better visually and has less impact on visual distortion as in the whole visual experience as the visual aspect is a lot more epurated. And that is a big one. I personally feel a lot myself in this environnement after a few tweeks.

Linux Mint/ubuntu? haha sorry no time for that, I'm running a business. Have tried many times and it sucks just like windows sucks in its very own way but I will install it on a dual boot just because it is probably that time again.

But look, I will macrium image my W10 once its fully configured and will give W7 an install and will see if there is a difference, even though I emit serious doubts on the actual solidity of this whole theory.
