Choosing the right USB 3.0 dock for my W520 - please help.

Hi guys!

I need some help and suggestions. Today I have the advanced dock for my W520, but it has showed to be utterly flaky. Everytime I reboot it I need to do tricks and fixes to get both screens to work, to get usb peripherals to connect and so on.

Now I am thinking of getting one of those USB 3.0 docks where you insert just _one_ cable and ready to go. I am wondering; as a desktop setup I have two Dell monitors with hdmi/vga/display-port connections. Which of these would work for my setup? As far as I can see there are none with dual display port, though one with D-DVI and a regular DVI, but I am not sure that would work?

Would really appreciate some help. Cheers

If you think youre getting two dell monitors over usb 3.0, youre in for a little surprise. You MIGHT be able to manage a small monitor <1600x900 but two is not going to work. You need a dock because 2 monitors over USB 3.0 will run at a super laggy and its awful. Put it this way, you could run your car on tiny 10" tires but it bumpy and awful compared to normal 17" tires.

No USB3 dock will be as reliable as a dedicated Mini-Dock / Mini-Dock Plus. It won't provide power either, so it will be at least two cables. You may have a flaky dock, but they are not all like this.

Thx guys. I kinda suspected this. I tested one of those usb>hdmi gadgets like five years ago and they also used quite a bit of CPU power. I guess my next post will be on how to fix the Gremlins in the dock...
