W510 Fan

#1 Post by zephxiii » Mon Dec 18, 2017 4:30 pm

Anyone have a part number for fan on 60Y5493 heatsink/Fan assembly. This assembly is for the quadcore w/ quadro graphics model, the one that has 3 heat pipes, 2 for the CPU. I don't wanna pull it all apart to get it quite yet as I kinda need the machine still.

Lenovo doesn't sell the fans separately.

But search eBay for 60Y5493 and 60Y5494, those are the FRU's listed by the HMM as "Thermal module for W510". There are bound to be a lot of listings for just the fan.

If it's anything like the W520, you might want to have alu tape and foam tape stocked before you remove the fan.

Yeah i ordered a HSF assy off ebay. I think a GC055010VH fan will work... but it must be 4 pin connector version for W510! T510 uses 3pin. There are both versions of that fan. Bit annoying since only 3 of 4 pins are used, shoulda stuck with 3 across the board.

I'm ordering a couple of fans separate since i have a bunch of T510s and another W510 whose fan is still working amazingly. We have high amount of carbide dust in our plant which is terrible for fans or anything with bearings. Generally T500 fans and above have held up well.

Typical Sunon fans... FYI: these Sunon fans are permanent assembly means the fan that spins cannot be taken off at all. It has plastic barbs hooked to the mushroom shaped end of the fan shaft and cannot be pried loose since the label side is all plastic, no plug at all to pop off either. Also these Sunon tend to be little more wobbly like the green label (ADDA usually) than rest. If you have other fan makers, can lift off the fan and lubricate with drop of oil to make lifetime last longest and quiet, more stable spinning. I do this all the time any time when taking notebook apart for first time.

I hope you had ordered is FRU: 60Y5494 which is also 3 pipe with 4 pin plug, white and black label for W510 which is lubricate-able, and better quality fan, easy to spin & no wobble.

For T510 heatsinks, make sure they are FRU 60Y5492 for GPU, or iGPU for FRU: 60Y5489.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection
