W700ds Blank screen

#1 Post by gv260ea » Mon Feb 12, 2018 9:53 am

Hi, My W700ds won't post. Here is a description of whats happening during power on sequence. Optical drive lights up and makes noise the lights below the screen lights up and after a second only the Z light the battery light and the power light stays on. After that nothing happens. If i let it sit for a while the fans rpm starts to increase.
Here is what i have tried
Re-seat the ram
Remove CMOS battery
Remove HDDs
Press power button 10 times and hold it for 30 seconds while the battery and the adapter is unplugged
Plug in a display via the display port with an HDMI adapter.
No matter what i do the result is the same.
P.S. capslock numlock and scroll lock buttons does not work.

Here is how I fixed it. I had a p8400 cpu lying around I swapped it with the qx9300 and reset the Cmos. Then it started to work. I have put the qx9300 back in and it also worked. I think this is quite unusual.

Quad-core W700 boards will only post with a Q9*** chip installed.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
