W520 audio

#1 Post by Arabian-Nights » Sat May 26, 2018 8:35 pm

Audio from the speakers on my W520 has become intermittent. From the headset jack it is OK. Any suggestions?

It might be similar to my X220.
At first it had intermittent speaker output, and eventually (after a few months) no output at all.

As it turned out, the headphone jack got damaged, and detects a headphone even when nothing is plugged in.

W520 speaker wires are stupidly ran over the copper heatpipes with zero insulation, and then tightly squeezed in a clip. See: https://youtu.be/lS5EBNhOgCc?t=3m40s
