W530 Motherboard Loose Contact - Shuts off suddenly
W530 Motherboard Loose Contact - Shuts off suddenly
Hello everyone,
I just got a used W530 which doesn't want to boot and shuts off suddenly when it eventually does.
I found a way to keep the power on and that was to press and hold the area just above the CPU on the frame right above where that white rectangular part is. Before it's warmed up and I can use the computer normally if I let go of the pressure it can shut off.
I removed the fan and re-applied thermal paste, didn't make any difference.
What seemed to make a difference is place a piece of small cardboard between the frame and the white rectangular part to mimic that pressure.
Anyone has had experience with this problem? Ideally I would like to locate where the loose contact is but my electronic knowledge is limited ! Thanks all!

Motherboard has bad joints, either return notebook for refund or motherboard replacement is needed.

Ok, well I placed a good plastic shim between the frame and that chip by prying up on the frame and pushing down on the motherboard. That seemed to have done the trick. Boots up 100%, updated windows 10, downloaded all kinds of things, browsed the web and touched up photos. Not much pressure was needed holding down the mobo because it was sometimes working without it but now 100%. Maybe it helps someone else too!
Re: W530 Motherboard Loose Contact - Shuts off suddenly
Looks like I still need to press down on the mobo to get it started so no 100% fix.

Exactly. This is reliability issue, only way is technician repair with reflow tools especially hot air rework to remelt broken solder using some flux as well can fix this properly, check for cellphone repair place?Looks like I still need to press down on the mobo to get it started so no 100% fix.
Otherwise another motherboard for W530.
