ISO power adapter for W700

#1 Post by sebileis » Mon Aug 06, 2018 8:45 pm

I just bought a ThinkPad W700 off eBay! I look forward to looking at this beast, but I need a power adapter for it. Does anybody here have a power adapter that they are willing to send me? I can't find too many on eBay or Amazon, most of them are incorrectly listed (listed as for the W700 but pictures show it is a W510/W520/W530 connector), are astronomically expensive, will take forever to ship, or are cheap aftermarket chargers. If anyone has a power adapter that they are willing to sell me for a reasonable price or ship to me, please let me know.

Honestly? I have just the same problem. Extremely weird connector, will most likely buy just the connector and rebuild the whole adapter out of a 230W HP Elitebook.

OFC most sellers sell the adapter as "W700 power adapter, with pin inside the connector". Ridiculous.

How hard can it be to replace that off-the-wall DC-connector with a 'regular' one?
Does it do anything that the regular connector can NOT do?

Most if not all of the ThinkPad DC connectors are a piece that plug into a connector on the motherboard, while the W700/W701 jack is soldered directly to the board. I'm sure if someone got the polarity right it could work, but there doesn't really seem to be very much information online about these machines.

Fairly easy, as long as you can get a proper connector :)

@sebileis: do not touch the laptop, just mod the adapter :)

But the part I'm looking for is the jack that plugs into the laptop...the part of this whole thing that is impossible to find. Any old 170W or 230W adapter would do, if only I could get the right plug!

Well we are speaking of the same, then.

However, I have found a source of those chargers. Just ordered one, should arrive by the end of this week, will share info with you. Cost me $60, though :| This is more than I paid for this dmn W700!

Please send me a private message or something so I can get one of these chargers. Compared to some of the listings I have found, $60 is quite reasonable for one of these chargers.
