What's the point of the last few posts?
W700 is a great machine, still usable up to this day, albeit with quite some number of minor and major issues (AC adapter availability, not the best LCD, GPU failures, CPU throttling without battery, SUPERBULKY design with huge LCD bezel, almost non-upgradeable considering GPU). 8 years old or 80 will only make it more legacy. As long as it gets the job done, it's a good machine for everyday use.
And this is brought to you from a frankenpad.
Still, for 17" machines do bear in mind that - apart from keyboard, DS and colorimeter/tablet options - there was nothing in W700 that was not done better in either HP (moddability, screen, reliability) or Dell (heat, expandability, raw power, screen, battery life). Same time those two cost 1/2-1/4 of W700/W701 price.
