Having switched to a W500 from a T61p, I've noticed that my W500's heatsink (45N5492) is much "paler", or "less red/bronze coloured" than the T61p's (42W2820). While the T61p's heatsink appears red and bronze while viewing from the vent, the W500's looks gold or even a bit silver.
This doesn't seem to affect function however, as the T9900 holds around 90C after 30 minute of Prime95 small FFT. Just wondering if there's any engineering/cost/... factor that went into this change? Please do share your insight...
Thanks in advance.

My best guess is the copper oxidizing over time. I noticed this on a T42 heatsink vs a T500 heatsink too.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

It would make sense except the heatsink was new on my W500, and a side view from Notebookcheck seems to confirm the same colour difference.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 1:12 amMy best guess is the copper oxidizing over time. I noticed this on a T42 heatsink vs a T500 heatsink too.
