Thermal pad thickness - w700ds

#1 Post by as.nielo » Fri Dec 21, 2018 3:53 pm

I've opened my w700ds "to the bone" to check if shutdown problems sit in BIOS chip and took opportunity to replace the thermal compounds. There is paste on the CPU, GPU and northbridge. Also memory chips of my FX3700 have thermal pads applied.
Since its advised to put a new pad after removing the heatsink I went to the market to buy one. But they come in several thickness and now I have no idea which one I need. I'll apreciate a good answer. Greetings

My W700's Quadro FX 2700M uses thermal pads that are approximately 1mm thick, but I am not sure if this is the case with the Quadro FX 3700M used in your W700ds.

Could you measure the thermal pads' thickness on your Quadro FX 3700M? I believe that should give you a better answer, rather than a risky approximate found on my Quadro FX 2700M.

I believe they were 1mm too and I have a 3700M.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Thx for your answers, I think I'll go for one mm. apparently old thermal pads got compressed and tis not possible to see what the original thickness was anymore.

Use thermal grease instead of pad for the GPU, Use a 1.5mm thermal pad on the northbridge. This results in better thermals.

SOLVED it is 2mm for the GPU memory and the northbridge.

The title of this thread should be changed to denote *which* machine we're talking about.
