Whole row of dead keys
Whole row of dead keys
A whole row of keys just died on my W540: F2, F3, E, D, and C. All the keys worked fine until yesterday, when they all died at once. Anyone ever have this issue? Any ideas on how I can easily fix it? I don't want to replace the whole keyboard, but I do have one the same size from an E540 that I can put on there if I need to. Thanks.
Re: Whole row of dead keys
This is very likely caused by a fault on one trace of the membrane or the keyboard connector itself.
First reseat the keyboard and clean the keyboard connector. If that doesn't work, then fixing might be very complicated and might involve with taking the entire keyboard apart and find the broken trace...

Re: Whole row of dead keys
Thanks for the help. I tried cleaning the keyboard connector, but it didn't work. I don't have the electronics expertise to take the keyboard itself apart, but I realized I had my old E540 from the same year. Its keyboard was a drop-in replacement for the one on the W540. It doesn't have a backlight, but I never used it anyway.
Anyway, if someone wants the old keyboard, they can have it. You just need to have the expertise to find the broken trace.
