Whats my W701DS Worth? *WARNING: BIG PICS*
Hello Thinkpad enthusiasts, I have a question for you.
My dad on 1/30/2011 bought a new Thinkpad W701DS and is only now finishing his time with it, having had me help him upgrade to something a tad lighter.
Was looking around online to see what it was worth when i saw that it was a collectors item? Now I am a bit curious on what this is worth, and im looking for someone who could give me an estimate/guesstimate.
I dont believe anything is wrong with it, other than the battery being old (dies at 50%), but I have ordered a new battery for it.
I have receipts, 2 docks(with original working set of 2 keys for each) and 3 chargers, original manuals etc... and authentic Lenovo leather carrying case for it (that even has the inspectors card lol). I do not have the box ( I will look in garage, but doubt it).
It has been upgraded from 8 gigs of ram to 16 gigs (see photos), and has had a 512 gig ssd installed in 2015 (receipt included, was installed at now defunct Fry's Electronics).
Everything seems to work on the device, from the second monitor (bit of backlight bleed, works though), the fingerprint scanner, chargers and docks. Have not tested everything though (like the pen).
I've included photos of everything I could find so far.
Ask any questions!
Oh and the receipt says W701 but when you look at the display section on that receipt it shows the 2 monitor setup.

They go for $1000-$1500. They are still worth quite a bit and are very rare items now. Definitely a collector item!

That is a beautiful system, and many bonus points for all the kept documentation. It's obvious it was well taken care of.
I don't currently have the W701ds Windows 7 recovery media, if you'd be interested in sharing .ISO images of the recovery media for the recovery media archive, I'd be most grateful!

It's a huge impractical computer that has been obsoleted by more modern 17 inch devices. I have a W701 at my workspace that I keep in the locker and use alongside my carry Thinkpad for writing, viewing videos, and reading documents. Makes me feel like I have the biggest D*ck in the room.

As a w700ds user I agree that it’s clumpy beyond any today’s standard. But I move constantly between 3 workplaces and having this beast in a carrying bag is a blessing.
These machines have the most superior screen in terms of digital photography I have ever seen, comparable to professional desktop screens from EIZO. Every picture I want to have printed on paper is beforehand adjusted with CameraRAW on my thinkpad. This display is a dealbreaker in terms of colur accuracy/contrasts/dynamic range capabilities and 17inch screen estate plus this little extra screen makes it really worth to have if you are into digital photography or multimedia design. Moving around with a box of photo equipment - extra 5kg makes little difference.
W700ds is limited to 8GB of RAM and so far this is the biggest drawback, the other one is power consumption. AFAIK both machines won’t last for more than an hour off-grid, plus mine is very sluggish if forking on battery alone. Also, it’s unreliable this way shutting down cold all of sudden. I haven’t yet resolved if this is non-genuine battery issue.
I’ve been using windows 10 for a while but I moved back to 7 with a short Debian affair midway... Since it’s only 8 gigs of memory I wasn’t satisfied with running Windows via VM under linux, as for the rest, it was working very nicely.
If I ever get spare 10k bucks I would possibly go for P72 but for the moment I’m glad to have this one next to MacBook Pro 13 inch.

Do you still need the windows 7 recovery media?
