Hello all, new member here!
I recently acquired a ThinkPad W510, I have been in the process of maxing out the device and have one stumbling block that I will get to.
Upgraded screen to 1920x1080 display.
Maxed out to 32GB of RAM
1TB SSD + 500GB SSD in Ultrabay
Updated BIOS to 1.45
Now having said all that, I purchased an i7-940XM off of eBay, having read that this is the maximum performance CPU that can fit in this socket, however, the system simply refuses to turn on when it is installed. I checked for bent pins, all seem to be in order.
Put the stock i7 Q 720 back in, device boots right up. Now, before I ask for a refund from the eBay seller or even a replacement chip, is there anything that I am missing on this? Is there a potential BIOS lock from using this chip? I've seen a few (not many though) people say that they have it in their W510, but no mention of having to clear a BIOS whitelist or anything like that.
Any help is much appreciated!
EDIT: I also forgot to mention, I tried booting it up with the processor in, and ALL the RAM removed, same issue. I can feel heat from the CPU/heatsink, but no signs of power.
