[W520] Phosphorescent keyboard?!

#1 Post by WarMachine » Fri Jul 30, 2021 4:26 am

Hello,

That's it! I received my W520 yesterday. The 36ᵗʰ laptop of my collection. Two little cracks on the display bezel, but otherwise, it's like new, litterally! I'm so happy (and it was the cheapest W520 I saw for months)! :)
With the T400s, the T410, the T410s, the T420, the T420s and the two X220, this laptop shares the same keyboard. Well, you know there are various manufacturers. On the W520, it's almost new, a little wear on the spacebar and the E key. But very little. But what is very intriguing is that it seems to me it is phosphorescent. There is a slight green glowing. Am I mad? I also wish to say that at this time, I've only one dose of Moderna in my veins and that I don't download four times faster than before! :o :D

Have you ever seen that?

I have not opened the laptop yet, it's so clean it's not necessary at the moment (I will as soon as I receive something to upgrade it, but it will not be today).

Thank you! :)

W.

[W520] Phosphorescent keyboard?!

Hello !

Ah ah! :D

In fact, I'm surprised myself, because the laptops I buy are so old that they can't function properly if I don't open them to clean them (if I don't buy them already opened. I remember of my X60t, we could see the guts of the machine in the bag ! :D But once cleaned, oiled, pasted and reassembled, it worked flawlessly). My X61t also. In super shape, but stinking cold tobacco. I hate that. The laptop stayed outdoors disassembled for a month! At least I open them to replace the hard disk most of the time, and add memory. Well, I could use them as is (minus the X60t of course), but I like my Thinkpads clean and snappy! And they are! :)

I've just thought, I visit my friend tomorrow, its his birthday. I bought him a 3610QM to replace his 3320M for his T430 (I think it's a 3630QM in fact, but I haven't tested it as my T430 is my teleworking laptop). I'll bring my W520 and ask him if he can take some nice photos. He knows how to do that and he has a nice digital camera (a one-year Canon Reflex if I remember. Me, I just have a 7-years old tablet, and I take photos as I dance, so it's veeeeeeeeery bad).

:)

[W520] Phosphorescent keyboard?!

#4 Post by WarMachine » Fri Jul 30, 2021 10:07 am

Hello again,

Well, I was so curious I took out the keyboard.

The FRU is 45N2222 (part number 45N2187). Model C990 C9LH-FR. If I'm not mistaken, it should be an NMB, the domes are red. But there's a stick where it's written Liteon. I know they built keyboards for other Thinkpads, more recent ones. But even on Lenovo's site, you have only 3 references for each keyboard, but the page isn't accessible at the moment). So, Liteon is the same as NMB?

Perhaps an answer here : https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comme ... n_sticker/

I don't know what to think. All I can say is I love this keyboard. The feeling is nice.

W.

If you could get a picture of the backlight that'd be great.
