Best LCD for W500

#1 Post by ibrazhko » Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:00 am

I have a W500 with a stock WUXGA panel. I really don't like the screen in terms of contrast and especially brightness, so I want to upgrade it. What do you think would give me better results:

1) SHARP LQ154M1LW2A, which has been recommended here many times; or
2) stock panel after LED modification (purchased from ICCFL.com)?

Would appreciate some advise.

That sharp is very good in *60 and *61 series 15.4", but in W500 and T500 the brightness scaling will be wrong due to their misidentifying it as LED backlit. Otherwise it works fine.

The LG manufacturer WSXGA+ and WUXGA are generally considered superior to their Samsung counterparts.

I like the LP154WU1-TLB2 (used in Thinkpad) and LP154WU1-TLC2 (used in HP).

There is an LP154WU1-TLC1 used in Alienware but it has incompatibilities with Thinkpad ATI graphics, so it's only good in an Intel only unit.

Thanks, but are you sure about this part?

Because I've searched the forum and can see that LQ154M1LW2A has indeed been recommended multiple times for W500, in particular by RealBlackStuff:
Your best WUXGA (1920x1200) for 16:10 T500/T61 would be the (CCFL) Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02, as used in many D800 Series Dells.
They need a few mounting eyelets cut off (you can leave up to about 2-3mm), but are otherwise a drop-in replacement
Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02 WUXGA to the rescue!
They are THE best screen for 15.4" T60/T61/T500/W500/R500.
They do need careful removal of some hardware eyelets, but that's all

I see from your OP you already have a stock WUXGA. I apologize for not noticing that before. There is no point in exchanging for another WUXGA they are all the same.

I'm surprised: I love the 1920x1200 display on the W500. But, best of luck.
