Apparently, anyway. I didn't see any evidence of WUXGA on any of the other ThinkPads released July 15, 2008.

you should be able to install two 4GB DDR2-667 modules in your T61p once they're more readily available. fyi, i saw two samsung 4GB modules go on ebay recently for
only $330 each.

I have a feeling that all that DDR3 could buy me a second laptop even if I get it from a third party. Whats the average price per GB for DDR3 right now?

Display
WSXGA+ (1680x1050, 129dpi, 200+ nit)
WUXGA (1920x1200, 147dpi, 200+ nit)
so no LED backlit here?

I guess the key word from the specs is "Premium"

Now that the spec sheet is out, I am drooling. The W500 is just exactly the computer I was hoping my T61p WUXGA would be.
I wanted the Blu-Ray and the integrated camera.
Too bad for me that I invested in four years of ThinkPad protection and Microsoft Office on the T61p.
From the specs, does it look like the WUXGA screen is about the same as the T61p WUXGA screen?

if the panels are 200 nit, it will be the same old story, washed out useless displays
Is WUXGA reasonable for a 15.4" screen

Hi everyone,
I love my 1920 x 1200 resolution on my 17" laptop and 24" LCD, but is this a reasonable resolution for a 15.4" screen? I would like to hear from any of you who have had this resolution on a 15.4" screen before. I can see myself developing neck, back, and eye issues from having to be 2 inches from the screen to see text

the renowned UXGA IPS displays were 200 nits but were far from being washed out or useless.

I have a 15.4" WUXGA Thinkpad. I think it's too much. You have to be too close to the monitor... Of course you can always change the resolution of the monitor whenever needed, but the image won't be as sharp.

Yes. I've used it every day since September, usually running at 1920 x 1200. I have no problem with WUXGA on a 15.4 inch or with UXGA on a 15 inch.

LOL, I am also trying to hold on to my t61p, but I guess it is easier for me as long as they don't release a standard 4:3 W series.

this is what i noticed even with older models, you have to set it on max resolution to get sharp images/text/corners etc.. (mine T42P) what solution should solve this issue ? go for lower resoluion standard say 1280'ish ?

No need for drastic measures.

1280 it's too low. Why don't you try the WSXGA+ (1650 x 1050). It' slower than the WUXGA...

Lowering the resolution is bad all the time - 1680x1050 on WUXGA cannot and is not sharp. No point in buying resolution, you don`t want to use - try tvcalculator.com for exact calculation of pixel density. Easy way is to compare some screen you know and like - put in in the calculation and you will see the pixel density which is the key information.

I once saw WUXGA on a 17'' notebook and thought that was small. The WXGA+ suits a 17" fine I think, and I have no problems with my eyesight. It just feels right... WUXGA on 15.4''... well, don't know what to say.

Would the WUXGA on the W500 be comparable in quality (brightness, sharpness) to the 15" 1600x1200 Flexview displays?

No. It is likely to be similar to the WUXGA 1920 x 1200 non-IPS non-Flexview screen that I had on my Z61p and that I have now on my T61p.
The screen is not as bright and has not a good a viewing angle as the 1600 x 1200 Flexview screens.
I work every day with both a an R50p with 1600 x 1200 and a T61p with 1920 x 1200. The newer screen is good enough for most work, but not as good in very bright indoor light and not as good at side view.
