There doesn't seem to be a Blu-ray option for the W500

I noticed that too. The TAbook lists it as an accessory.

It is still pretty expensive - so I decided to wait. I'll get one later as an upgrade.

If you want one now - I'm 99% sure that if you call to order instead of using the web, they will configure it that way.

Some notebook vendors like HP has an option of BD-R + DVD-RW combo, listed a bit under $200. Unfortunately, Lenovo doesn't offer that and only has BD-RW option, so it is still quite expensive.
