Agreed. I ordered my W500 on 8-28 and I just got notice that it shipped today. Now I just need to unload my T60p (wife won't let me keep all my toys):( .
do they send you an email saying the unit has been shipped? or do you have to check the status online? I ordered mine on the same day but haven't received any shipping notice yet. I really do hope it gets to NYC by next friday cuz I'll be flying out of the country for uni on Sunday

I'm using a T61p with WSGAG+(1680x 105) and 4GB memory and AT&T WAN card. The reasons I order the new one are:
1. 8GB Memory only cost 260 more for CPP program. At newegg.com, the 8GB DDR3 memory will cost u more than 700 dollars.
2. I already bought Intel 5350 card(which supports WiMax that is availiable in Las Veagas), but the WiMax is not functioning at T61p

It cost me lest then 1,999. I thought that's better than the deal on ebay.

Hope that I will received my W500 sooner.

Ordered from the Outlet last Thursday (over night) the 5th/6th. Lenovo finally said it it would ship the 16th on Tuesday and they sent me an email to the email on file for this address, instead of the email I put down for this computer which is a work email address,....STRANGE.
Then on Thursday the site said it shipped and the tracking would be available the next day. Today (the next day) came and went and still no tracking info but apparently while my wife was in the bathroom and my teenager was ignoring the sound, the UPS guy came and went leaving a notice on the door! Now I have to wait until Monday. This is retarded!

All those refurb T61's seem to have one year warranty. Has the 3 month warranty been scrapped in favour?

Some interesting prices on those W700's....

Looks like Lenovo as having trouble meeting demand for W700. I ordered mine on 12/13 with an expected ship date of 12/22. Several days later, I got an email saying that shipping would be delayed until 12/27. The estimated ship date then slid back to 1/1. Checking the status today, I now see that the estimate has slipped again to 1/8. I WANT MY THINKPAD NOW!!

Just placed an order for a W700, T9600 chip, 4G memory, WUXGA screen :P ,
SSD, etc., etc., etc. Was verbally given a ship date of Sat., 2/13/10.

HOWEVER, the guy processing my order told me they'd just pulled the W700s from the
website due to delays in getting the WUXGA screens. Best guess, March deliveries(!)

My order had been saved(up to 10 days) from a call I'd placed on Monday, 2/1/10, so
it could be processed.

CSR guy had no idea whether I'd be delayed or not.

Evidently, they'd run out of the WSXGA+ screens and were substituting the WUXGA instead(!) Now, they're short on WUXGA...
Explains why when I went thru the web ordering process, the only resolution available was WUXGA.

Woulda been nice to have gotten the 'free' upgrade, but I'm ok with what I ordered.

Now that I've ordered, I'm getting a bad case of instant gratification-itis...

FIRST post, too :) Glad I stumbled onto this website a few days ago.

You sure you want to get a W700 now? Lenovo pulled the W700 off their site just now, and will be replacing it with the refresh model W701.

And welcome, by the way. ;) You're on a great forum.

Yup, W700 is just what I've been wanting for some time now. With the price drops, I can now afford it  W710 probably gonna be out of reach(for now).

However, I wasn't aware of the (apparently) numerous problems Lenovo seems to have getting product out the door. My order number -still- comes up with a 2/13 ship date. I'll continue to monitor that. BUT, the latest thing is that the credit card charge for the purchase, which was showing as pending, has DISAPPEARED. I called the ccard company this morning and they said Lenovo failed to finish processing the transaction. Does not appear that the ccard co. cancelled the order; rather, a lack of finish on the Lenovo end. So now I'm wondering if I'm gonna get busted on this order, or at a minimum, severely delayed.

Can't reach a live body at Lenovo until Monday morning...

Kinda really need this W700 sooner rather than later, so I'm hoping this will clear up.

No worries about your credit card processing. Here's how Lenovo handles orders. They call your card co, obtain a pre-authorization which shows as pending then drops off. This is normal. Then once the machine is built, they ship it and charge your card. So, you're in good shape.

So, all along, my order status has indicated an estimated shipping date of 2/13(ordering date was 2/3). Just checked again, and still showing it. No activity yet on my credit card. This weekend starts the week long biggest Chinese holiday, so I'm wondering if I'm ok or hosed for a couple of weeks. No dreaded delay emails, either...

Are the U.S. orders actually assembled first in China and then shipped over here? Or, perhaps, are they built here from parts previously sent over??

I specified two-day shipping, so am wondering if my W700 is over here somewhere, or on the boat/plane from China. Seems unlikely I'll get two day delivery with a Saturday, 2/13 shipping date.

Ideas???????

Crap. Just checked order status(again, for umpteenth time). Ship date went from 2/13(yesterday) to 3/9 (!)

No email, no nuthin', just a revised date on the order status page.

Kinda needed(and wanted) that box sooner, not later...

Well, things are a lookin' UP...just got notice that my W700 has shipped...and, as I picked 2-day shipping, da new toy oughta be here sometime FRIDAY...

Dunno if Lenovo stuck an artifically far out date on my order cuz of the weeklong Chinese holiday, or what...

IF the delivery date holds, my order will have arrived about one week later than I originally thought.

Suffice it to say, Lenovo could stand to do some work on their ordering/inventory/delivery system(s).

Fyi, I did finally receive the W700 on Feb. 22, after my initial ordering on Feb 3. My guess is that it was delayed a week or so cuz of the Chinese New Year Holiday. Also, UPS had a flight cancelled out of China over the weekend, so that held it up a bit.

I'm very impressed by the unit. Quite a big leap UP from the Z61p laptops I've been using for the last few years.

Had a bit of an issue handling the Win7/Lenovo load format(hidden partitions, restore stuff, etc) due to lack of knowledge of how the stock load is structured. Other than that, I really like the Win7/Lenovo Utilities load, the WUXGA screen, SSD drive, -fast- throughput, etc.

Only thing I'd like would be handling for some old DOS 16 bit stuff I have. I like to pop DOS windows and run little utilities, etc. Most of my stuff carries over, but a few little tidbits don't, so guess I'll be poking around on the web for some replacements.

If anyone has a -practical- solution for running old DOS stuff, lemme know. These .com/.exe routines don't mess with the actual hardware, just cpu stuff, such as a calendar program, little editor, etc.

I'm surprised noone responded. What is it that you need to do exactly? Run old 16-bit DOS apps? Set up a dual-boot with XP after Windows 7 has already been installed, which, of course, is the case with every new PC that you buy from any manufacturer?

What did you have before the W700? Which OS? What hardware that ran your incompatible applications? I can probably help, but I'd need the answers to the aforementioned questions. ;)

I installed "Windows XP Mode" since my machine is 64 bit. Free download from MS. All my "problem children" run fine. XP Mode runs as a VM inside of Win 7 and not dual boot. I can use Win 7 and Win XP Mode concurrently. YMMV.

Getting back on topic ...

I ordered a W701 about a week ago - order system is quoting 1 month for expected shipping. Is that realistic?

I don't wanna get into any dual-boot scenarios, just like to pop open quickie CMD windows,
do my thing, then close the window. I migrated from Z61p laptops, running WinXP, to
the W700, running Win7 Pro, 64-bit(very nice, too :) )

The only apps I haven't been able to update are the original(1985-ish) version of KEDIT I have,
which is a clone of the CMS XEDIT editor from VM mainframe land. We're talking REAL DOS
here on this one... I use a much more current version of Kedit, which works fine, but occasionally
like to run the old version. Other app is a calendar program that'll display a monthly calendar, in
text form, from a CMD window. If anyone knows of something like this for 32/64-bit, lemme
know. I don't want a separate window popped up, just something I can key in from the command
line in a CMD window that'll display a specified month's data in text format, in the same CMD window.

I found DOSBOX somewhere and have a copy of that, but that's not really the easy way to
get things going, altho it'll work in a pinch.

I tend to be command line oriented(left over from mainframe days), and often find that to be
easier and more convenient than messing with pop up windows, icons, etc.

Any help greatly appreciated...

No idea, been wondering that myself. I ordered on the 8th... My delivery is supposed to be 5/1.

Probably but if they develop a parts shortage or a problem with a part it's a crap shoot as to when your Thinkpad will actually ship. Seeing as your ship estimate is already 1 month out tells me there is some sort of shortage. If everything goes perfect 10/14 days is closer to a normal build to ship timeframe. Good luck.

They must have had an influx of those parts they were short ... mine shipped 5/5, ordered 4/18.

Ordered my first Lenovo...

W701ds: Order date: 05/11/2010, Estimated shipping date: 06/17/2010
It appears that it's normal to wait 5 weeks for W701ds. Right ? I called Lenovo to inquire about it and was told that this is because there's a delay in getting LCD panels for my configuration.
