I just noticed that the base price of the W500 now has a "sale" price of $1,327, vs a regular price of $1,659. Did this price decrease just happen, or did I not previously notice the lower price?

The strange thing seems to the difference in price between W500 and T500. W500 should be superior to T500 (like t61p was to T61). But for a similar configuration in CPU, display, RAM and HD, W500 is around 300 USD cheaper than T500. How can that be possible?

This is purely speculation on my part, but perhaps Lenovo just wants to increase interest in the W500, who really knows? (Other than people at Lenovo.)

Or perhaps they just wanted to allow early adopters, such as myself to invoke the 21 day price guarantee and recoup the difference between what was originally paid for a new W500 and the current sale price for the same configuration... gotta go call customer service...

21 Day price gaurantee? I didn't know about that. Are the details somewhere on the Lenovo web site?

To get the price guarantee money back:

Configure EXACTLY the same system you ordered previously (all the same specs, everything) and then proceed through the next few pages until you reach the payment page. Instead of choosing to pay now, choose to create a quote. Call customer service with your quote number reference and if it's within the time limit you'll get the difference back.

This difference applies to all sales, and perhaps coupons too? Not sure on the last one, but it's worth a try.

A few caveats:
- You can get only one price guarantee refund on a particular machine. If the price falls again you're out of luck.
- Don't expect to find this advertised very well; probably Lenovo realizes just as we do that they're the ones paying whenever someone does this.

This information was easily found on NotebookReview a few years back, but it's gotten buried in their forums as of late I believe...

Yes! I called Lenovo and they're honoring the price gaurantee. With the sale they just started today I will get a large refund on my W500!
