Aaaarrrgh -- W500 + Vista64
So my W500 arrived! ("upgraded" from a T60p)
Once it shipped from HK (5-7day UPS), I got it in 3 -- so it was
a good start.
First impressions out the box were mixed: they keyboard is
a bit .. "clanky" .. and the touchpad buttons are trash -- just
brushing your fingers over theres makes a plasticy sound --
like they're loose or thinner/flimsier than the t60p.
the LCD isn't as rigid either -- poking it with a finger brings
up an aurora borealis
is it all worth a few extra cents they saved on plastic?
Anyway, the troubles started after I "updated" everything.
Out of the box, I went through ThinkVantage setup, let it
know what planet I'd be using the computer on -- so
far so good.
Installed Office 64.
Then:
Windows Update
ThinkVantage Update
Office Update
Installed McAfee (could this be a big problem? the whole
64-bit environment??)
Rebooted one last time.
Computer is very sluggish... mouse clicks happen 10 seconds
later.
Fingerprint reader disappeared.
DVD/CD drive disappeared. (putting discs in spun them up but
did nothing).
InterVideoDVD "expired".
Now I'm faced with resetting it to factory condition and trying
again.
Anyone spot anything I might've done wrong?
Thanks.

Got mine today....have to agree
the keyboard is a disappointment. I really like the keyboard on my Dell vostro. I guess I'll get used to this.
Re: Mcafee....did you install from the trial? Why not try AVG Free:

I use it on my Pcs.

The keys don't have a solid springy feel to them to me...you may have a different opinion..I'll probably use this in the dock with an external keyboard when I need to do a lot of keyboarding.raptorhertz wrote:HI Buddy!
Even i am keen to buy W500!
Why the keyboard on W500 is disappointment? Care to explain in detail.
Don't get me wrong...I think the machine so far is great...very fast. I will reserve further judgment until I've had it a bit longer.

Mine is now running great but i had the fingerprint reader completely mess up after it updated... it would lock up at the login screen so i could not login. If you have this happen goto the BIOS (F1) and disable the fingerprint reader and then uninstall it and install the version that came with the computer.
