Dual-Link DVI, Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition

#1 Post by mabozu » Sat Feb 07, 2009 4:42 am

Hi, i´m using a Matrox TripleHead2Go DigitalEdition with 3 Samsung FlatScreens 22" (SyncMaster 2233BW).
I want to buy a W500 but i´m not sure whether W500 will work with my current multi-monitor system. I need a dual-link DVI-D connection on the notebook or the dock. notebook has only a VGA but the dock has a DVI but i didn´t find any further infos about this DVI connection.
Does anybody has further informations about the DVI or knows sth. about TripleHead2Go Digital Edition with W500 ?!

I'm just investigating a W500 system purchase.

The unit has DisplayPort (up to 2560x1600) ... but I don't think there is a fully compatible Dock yet. The 2503 'Advanced Dock' has no DisplayPort throughput, for example.

However if you get that Dock you could install one of two ATI cards into the bay .. one for 2D work (2260), or one for 3D and graphics (1300).

I'm still chasing this, so no experience to report.

The Advanced Dock and Advanced Mini-dock support Dual-link DVI output on the W500. I use it with a Dell 3007WFP.

Thanks, Andrew .... which dock are you using? Is the Advanced Dock fully compatible?

My interest extends to inserting various "frame grabber cards" to work with industrial/scientific cameras; the function of such cards is to 'grab' a frame from the video stream and to use the information from that frame for documentation, inspection, measurement, robot guidance and such. This in addition to having the pass-thru in the dock to drive a 2560x1600 LCD at full resolution is where I am heading with my intended TP-W500. In your setup can you have the external in internal monitor on the same desktop?

On my A31p units I run both displays as an extended desktop setup. This has worked flawlessly from the start (UXGA + WUXGA external). Now that I need the extra real estate of the 2560x1600 for my solid modeling and image processing SW, I can't find a compatible 3D video card to run full resolution ... and am limited to 1960x1200 via DVI-I on my Dock pass-thru ... BTW this lower res is a crummy image on a 2560x1600 .. fuzzy edges. The display issue is only one side of the coin; the A31p, a wonderful machine that I maxed out ... is just running out of resources.

So I am sliding into 64 bit computing .. and welcome any pointers re the TP-W500 configuration.

I have one of each. I'm pretty sure I've tested both - but I'm using an Advanced Dock with the 30" right now.

I'm not sure I follow the rest - but the ATI-graphics thinkpads can do 2 displays. If the dock DVI is enabled - then you can also use VGA or the internal LCD - but not both. You might be able to use DisplayPort as the 2nd display. The W700 documentation says you can, but I'm not sure on the W500.

As far as add-in cards. They are a pain. Only the smallest ones will fit. I would get a USB frame grabber.
