New W500 memory question

#1 Post by TxHaz » Wed Feb 11, 2009 11:35 am

Hey everyone, new to this board. I just received my new W500 about a month ago and so far the boot up speed and performance hasn't been what I had hoped. I ordered it with XP Pro and the turbo memory option (SBB INT.TURBOMEMORY1.6 2GB) along with 3 gig of ram but I have no idea how this turbo memory works and if I need to so something to tweak it. Additionally, I noticed inside the battery case a slot where it appears an SD card of some type can be added. What is this for and can it be used to help increase performance. Any help would be appreciated. Additionally, all the software that comes on this machine from Lenovo seems to be adding to the performance problems, any issues if I go into msconfig and choose not to start them on bootup.

Thanks in advance

Sure would have been nice if Lenovo let you know that when you order. Oh well.

You have any idea about the little card slot in the battery area that appears to accept an SD card or something?

All the Lenovo preloaded software is the main reason why your machines feel so slow. Guys, if you want to get the optimal performance from your machines, consider a clean install of your preferred OS ;)

From Lenovo one can get only their windows image, so the result would be the same. You may not have to buy another license, but you will definitely need an (original) installation media.

In U.S. you can buy Vista installation media for about 5$ (at the price of the media only). As for the key on the COA sticker on the bottom of your ThinkPad, I would highly recommend you reading this thread (sorry for the yellow markings :) ).
