W700 Vista 64 with VMware Workstation, prob w wireless

#1 Post by johnp126 » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:15 pm

I think its more related to VMWARE. I installed with all default options. I have 2 Network adapters for VMWare:
VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet1
VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet8
Which i have disabled.

My Wired network connections via access connections work fine, but if i try to auto switch to wireless it never connects unless i physically turn off the wireless radios with the front button and then turn it back on. That works 100% of the time. I have another W700 demo using the same build from Lenovo without vmware workstation and that works fine.

Anyone got any ideas? (Btw I love the W700, I don't care about the weight, I love the big screen, great resolution 2x320 gb drives and the blue ray player)

VMware does not affect your host wireless, at least so far as I know, and in my long experience with VMware.
Right now I have VMware 6.5.1 installed on my Vista Business 64-bit computer and wireless works fine.

Problems I had with wireless:
1. I had to change the card from Atheros to Intel (where Atheros had worked marvellously in my XP box)
2. I had to get newest drivers for the Intel card
3. I had to set wireless Power Management to Maximum Performance in 3 places (Device Manager, Power Manager and Access Connections).
4. I elected to replace my router and that helped.

So Wireless works great and VMware played no part in this.

If you are going to use VMware, you may have to turn those adapters back on.
