How can I connect W500 to external Dell monitor?

#1 Post by msafi » Sun Mar 01, 2009 6:17 am

I have a 20" Dell monitor that I'd like to use with my ThinkPad W500. But I have a few questions:

1. Will the monitor support the WUXGA resolution?
2. What cable do I need to buy in order to hook it to the monitor?

re.1): I'd say unlikely, as I've never heard of a 20" monitor with WUXGA resolution.
What you should do is use the model number of your Dell monitor and google it for the exact specification (resolution and supported input ports) so you know what cable to buy and what resolution to expect.

You're right. The highest this one supports is 1680x1050. I don't have a problem with that, so I asked around for which cable is best and was told to just buy plain VGA and it will work. I went out and bought the VGA cable and now I connected the two displays, but I'm unable to get higher than 1027x768 on the external Dell monitor right now. I don't know if I need to install some kind of driver or something to get it to work...
