Using a T series Power adapter/supply on a W700?
Using a T series Power adapter/supply on a W700?
Does anyone know how I can go about using a T500 series power adapter on a W700? Yes, I know it will charge slower, but we don't use the W700 for games/graphics.. Just simple spreadsheet stuff, needed the 10-key and the large screen. It's actually spec'd close to a T500.
Is there an adapter available somewhere or does anyone know if I can solder in my own?
Thanks,
Bradley

I would stongly suggest you reconsider what you are planning to try. The T500 has a 90W adapter, the W700 a 170W adapter, almost double. I doubt your insurance would cover the fire damage if you went ahead with this.

I'm pretty sure the draw is no where near the 170W mark. If I was pegging the machine and I had two HD's, the high-end video card and processor, super-duper bright lcd (and the 2nd screen) and it was charging the battery maybe I'd hit 150W.

Just found some power ratings in this review:

Wouldn't recommend the 90w power supply; the W700 can suck 83W at high performance idle. If you have a quad core then it'll suck even more power - the slightest cpu movement and you'll be over-working the power supply, having to draw from the battery.

How is 150W better than 170W when running of a 90W adapter?bradhs wrote:I'm pretty sure the draw is no where near the 170W mark.
