SPDIF sound on W700 dock, onscreen display goes on often

This is really a minor nit, I realize.
When using my W700 with SPDIF output for audio (in docking station), the onscreen display volume indicator comes up for a few seconds. This happens every time the system makes a noise (like the small click when you browse with IE).
The workaround is to
a) turn-off the onscreen display, in the right-click on desktop, choose
Personalize
Display Settings
Advanced Settings
Onscreen Display
b) use analog audio
But in analog mode, my subwoofer hisses at low volume.
So, wondering if somebody knows a better workaround. Using latest W700 Vista x64 video drivers. Thanks!
