Dual Boot problem --- very odd

#1 Post by Phil_C » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:57 pm

After booting into a different OS (dual boot Win 7 on hard drive, or a WinPE CD), returning to WinXP causes the video driver to be unable to load. A subsequent reboot into XP fixes the problem. This behavior is 100% repeatable.

I don't understand how this can happen, since shutting down the computer should mean the next boot starts with a clean slate. How can a previous OS cause a problem?

BTW, it's nice to see this forum is still here...

Try disabling switchable graphics in BIOS. Neither OS you are running supports it.

I had the BIOS set to Discrete Graphics, but had not paid attention to "OS detection of switchable graphics". That did the trick.

Thanks much.
