bunch of new driver and updates at lenovo....
bunch of new driver and updates at lenovo....
I see there are many new updates at Lenovo. I also saw something saying that the new system to replace system update is not looking like it will be ready for May... so if you have not checked into Lenovo lately. Probably worth a visit.
Many of the driver updates address problems that tech help seems unaware of.
I dont understand why I have to suffer through tech help's lameness when there are clearly people working on the issues.

How about a group email
TO all TECH Support staff.
"We are clearly aware that after the latest access connection update that the green strenght indicator became pale coloured. Please let any callers know that we are working on it. "
I spoke to a tech about this ( a senior tech, after escallating issues) and he said.. oh ya mine did that too... funny...!! Sheesh. there is no excuse for the easy ones.

Re: bunch of new driver and updates at lenovo....
I have been having an issue with my W500 4058-CTO not suspending.
I close the lid, and in a few seconds it beeps, with the moon light. Then a few moments later, it beeps again and resumes, with the lid closed. With repeated attempts at suspending it will eventually stay asleep, but mostly when i Finally resume, there are a bunch of things that dont work. (untranav, wireless, etc...)
After all the new updates, my machine seemed to be better...
but today it is back to the drawing board... same suspending issues.

Re: bunch of new driver and updates at lenovo....
Try following:
1) Device Manager -> your wifi card -> advanced options/power management/policies (whatever applies there) -> disable wake on LAN
2) BIOS -> setup/configuration (again whatever applies) -> disable wake on LAN
...if applicable...
3) Check out the scheduled tasks for "unwanted" entries (mostly related to programs you have installed so far that would wake the laptop).
Have you performed a clean install of your OS or are you using the Lenovo preload? Judging by the various problems you experience the first one wouldn´t be a bad idea if you have some spare time (although Lenovo preload is supposed to work for everyone without issues). As soon as you find the driver versions that work best for you and without any problems, I wouldn´t bother updating them.
Hope this helps,
Marin

Re: bunch of new driver and updates at lenovo....
I find that for some reason my W500 is extremely sensitive to the drivers used.
Like Marin says, once you find the right combination do not update, just leave it be.
The mistake I made on mine was upgrading to SP3, as it runs so well in all my other ThinkPads. Then after doing so, the problems did not begin right away but over a week later, therefore I did not connect the two events. Once I tried every combination of drivers and nothing worked quite right, I decided to start fresh. I wiped the drive, reloaded the factor SP2 preload and left it at that. Now it's just fine.

That´s quite a nice way to say that some drivers are simply crappyarcher6 wrote:I find that for some reason my W500 is extremely sensitive to the drivers used.

Re: bunch of new driver and updates at lenovo....
If there was such a point in time where things worked properly, I would not be searching for updates... I have been from preload to current and th w500 never runs without issues.
I have even started with Lenovo recovery CDs.... no rel difference except that they require even more updates than the preload...
