High pitch sound W500

#1 Post by TheIntruder » Thu May 21, 2009 5:18 pm

Just got my W500 yesterday, and I freaking LOVE this machine (so far... )!

I did notice, however, a very high pitched sound coming from (I'm guessing) the hard drive. It's only audible in a quiet environment, and it's not overly loud... you kind of have to listen for it. I didn't even start noticing it until today.

I'm curious to know if anyone else with a W500 and similar specs can hear a similar sound. You may need to put your ear to your keyboard to hear it.

I'm not entirely sure it's the hard drive, but it is coming from that general area. It's the 160GB 7200RPM drive. And obviously the sound ceases when the machine is in sleep mode. This is my first 7200RPM laptop HD... I'm wondering if this type of sound is normal?

It's the kind of sound that gives you a headache after a while.

Thanks.
