Which Warranty should I get fom my W700!?
Hello. I am still unsure as to what to get as far as the two different warranties for my W700. How many years? Go with the Accidental damage one? Sounds expensive. I'm used to ummm 3 years included on all of my TxPThinkpads.
Which one compares (or equates to??) the 3-year one on the p series?? Thanks guys!

I always got the 3-year EzServe only. It was $90 three years ago on anything for me and it's still $90. That seems to be the sweet spot, as the 4th year is a lot more.
Remember you can extend it to 5 years before the end of the 3 years.
Another consideration is, I think that if you get the accidental coverage, and you want to extend the warranty later, you can only extend based on what you've got. Meaning, I don't think you can switch coverages between accidental and EzServe and on-site when you extened, at least that was what I was told when I bought my new T60. Mind you, this was for the employee purchase plan.

This is excellent advice!SkiBunny wrote:I always got the 3-year EzServe only. It was $90 three years ago on anything for me and it's still $90. That seems to be the sweet spot, as the 4th year is a lot more. Remember you can extend it to 5 years before the end of the 3 years.
I always choose 3 year EZ-Serve without fail. In my opinion only, it seems like a huge mistake _not_ to buy the coverage for an expensive computer. And like SkiBunny says, you can always extend it.
As far as accident protection is concerned, while none of us can predict what's going to happen, I think that if it's in your budget, it's also a terrific idea. One big drop or other accident can be get very expensive, very quickly. Suddenly you will be thrilled you spent the extra money up front.
Cheers...

@SkiBunny, yes, thank you, excellent way to look at the warranty issue, which I'm sure many people are wondering especially with the 2nd set of accidental warranty.archer6 & SkiBunny wrote:I always got the 3-year EzServe only. Re: Which Warranty should I get fom my W700!?
Well, when I last bought new (my T60 flexview 23 months ago), that was indeed true. Back then you used to have about 3 weeks during which you could purchase the 3-year EzServe for the same price as when initially ordered. Similarly, if you ordered the warranty when first ordering, you had 30 days during which you could cancel it for a full refund. If the 3-year is still as reasonably priced as it used to be when ordering, I think you will recoup the cost if you sell it before the warranty expires, especially for an expensive W700 (possibly not for a cheap T400).Crunch wrote:One lady at Lenovo in Atlanta that upgrading/extending any Thinkpad's warranty will cost more if not purchased at the time you order the system. Is that even true to anyone's knowledge? She did sound quite...ditzy and dizzy.
Adding the warranty later is a more expensive proposition.
Re: Which Warranty should I get fom my W700!?
A rider on your homeowners/renters insurance might be another option. It would also cover things like theft, which Lenovo's accidental policy will not, though with the size of the W700 I don't see it leaving the house much. I myself just usually get the base warranty if I'm buying new. My CC extends the warranty an additional year. By the third year if something happens to it, I'm looking for a new notebook anyway.
