W500 Blue Screen issue linked to infinitive loop in Ati2Dvag

#1 Post by jean » Wed Sep 02, 2009 2:40 am

Good morning,

I moved from a T61 to a W500 ThinkPad
Intel Core Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53GHZ, 1.93GB of Ram.

I am now hit regularly by a Blue Screen crash where the PC is reporting an infinitive loop in ATI2vdag module.

This happens at least once a day, with create serious disruptions in my work.

I have upgraded to Windows XP SP3, installed all patches recommended by the ThinkVantage System Update tool.

I further updated the Video driver to the latest one available on
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 70443.html

The Video card is anATI Mobility FireGL V5700, driver date is 10/07/09 version 8.633.0.0

I saw numerous people on internet complaining about this Blue screen issue with ATI2vdag infinitive loop but haven't found a reasonable fix so far.

I will appreciate any hints to fix this issue or at least alleviate it as I mentioned I loose regularly all my work as the result of daily crashes.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you,
Jean

My support team mentioned they had a number of similar issues with the W500. They didn't have a formal explanation of the BSD however they suggested as a workaround to go to the "Display Properties", Advance, troubleshoot tab and then decrease the Hardware Accelaration from Full by one knot.

This afternoon, I had 6 BSD's, since the decrease to the Hardware Acceleration it seems to be ok now.

I hope this will help someone.

Regards,
Jean
