(Looks like) alot of issues with the W series?

I am toying the idea of getting a W 700...and keeping my eyes here and the Lenovo community..
From many of the posts--it seems like there's quite a bit of issues with the "W" series..
I know these forums are here for people to get "help" and "issues" ...but the
The issues on the W's seems so "many"...
maybe the next refresh will get all ironed out...

"Issues" is sort of amorphous. Perhaps if you nailed it down better, you'd get some concrete info.

sorry , just being very general,,
upon reading the many posts..
issues like : built quality fit and finish,..
color sensor , driver issues..(maybe due to software) ect ect..
just wondering since this is a new model..maybe more improvements down the road..

do you really need a magnesium rollcage?
that's the only difference between this laptop and any other laptop.

I've had my W700 since they were first released. I wanted RAID 1 and Blu-Ray and I was willing to try a 17" screen and a laptop optimized for photography.

My first one had a defect and Lenovo Sales quickly got me a replacement. I've been using that once since February with no complaints.

What issues?

You seem to hear more horror stories as they yell the loudest.

The W series is really quite good and after owning many, my only problems were self inflicted!

yha I know.
but just reading the some of "issues" posts- that people are having seems so "basic"- like gaps, drivers, color sensor, screens (vs Flexviews), hollow keyboards, HD configurations,software issues ect ect..and some disappointments (mostly from Lenovo forums)..maybe the expectation i$ too high

I know this is off the topic but-- How come HP and Apples can get those great 17 screens and Lenovo can't?
Notebookreview gave a great review on the latest HP workstation and HP seems to have some nice screens on their workstation Laptops..from that review ..
and I have seen Apples' screen ..and they do look nice.
I have not seen W700ds screens ..but seems to have "mix reactions.."

I am a fan of thinkpads, I have bought many high end "p" series for myself and family members, they/we luv "that" screen..
but now I am just a little timid... after my T60P...

I have none of those issues. I just wish it weighed less. I've had over twenty ThinkPads since 1995 and this is the most trouble free.

Of course, I like Vista Ultimate x64 and some hate it. So there you go.

I've used a W500 loaner for six months, and will say that I've encountered two issues:

a) LCD is horrible. No ifs, ands or buts there. Mine was WUXGA with zero viewing angles and 1000% washout factor. The same piece of trash that I've had on T61p. Having said that, W500 is a much better unit altogether than T61p.

b) Intel wireless drivers for Vista...OMG. But that can be fixed somewhere along the way...

If it were not for the screen, it would be a great laptop. Seriously.

Now, I've seen and briefly tested W700. LCD is better, although IPS/AFFS it's not by any stretch of imagination.

Personally, I detest LCDs on Macs and HPs, but that's me.

The closest thing to a decent screen in a non-tablet laptop world is probably a ToughBook...unless you're specifically looking for a 17" unit, where it would be W700...
