W500: Replace Smart Card reader with PC Card?

I recently got a W500 and needed it fast so I had to buy one that was in stock. Unfortunaly that compuer does not have a PC Card slot, which I use a lot. So my question is this:

Is is possible to replace the Expresscard & Smart Card combination with a Expresscard & PC Card hardware in a W500?

I found the FRU no for the different parts. The one I have in my computer seems to be 42X4992 and the one I want is 42W3436. They seems interchangable in the hardware maintainance manual but is that the whole truth?
