Changing to SSD

#1 Post by zmaller » Fri Sep 25, 2009 2:00 am

Hi

Im planning to replace the harddrive in my Lenovo W500, to a SSD.

My question is: The harddrive in my thinkpad is a 2,5" right?

So it should be easy to replace the disk with an 2,5" SSD?

Thanks

Yes, it's a straight swap. Just make sure it's an SATA SSD.

Compared to my OCz solid state drive, my Intel X-25M 80 gig drive is fastest by far. Prepare to be spoiled, the speed improvement is addictive. Some drives are a bit flatter, and that meant I needed to use a cardboard cut out shim so the drive would properly mate to the socket. One of them came with its own adapter for proper fit. If your machine uses a drive caddy, it will fit fine, using screws on the side or the top works, whichever you prefer. If needed, the shim will provide the proper height for mating to the socket.
