Rant: Switchable Graphics and an External Monitor

#1 Post by Paul386 » Thu Oct 08, 2009 10:33 am

I got a Dell U2410 to use in conjunction with my W500 through the DisplayPort. With switchable graphics enabled when I plugged in the U2410 through the display port my the screen on my W500 would flash and nothing would happen on the monitor. It would not stop unless I unplugged the monitor but it still took some time to stop. This was very frustrating!

Well I finally disabled switchable graphics in the BIOS and what a difference! The computer doesn't flicker anywhere near as frequent when I come in and out of sleep or power on. It boots faster and just seems more stable. It is a shame Lenovo hasn't supported the switchable graphics models by updating the driver.

I took a video of my computer and I am going to upload it on Youtube so you can see the flickering.
