Lose keyboard after "lock computer"

Hi
I got a W500 months ago and usually close the lid to go into standby when I leave my computer.
I thought it would save time if I simply did the ctrl-alt-del - lock computer.
I discovered that I could log in to unlock the computer, but that once in Windows XP SP2, I had no keyboard at all. It took much more time to use the mouse to restart the system.
Any thoughts? Could this be a power management situation? One guy I talked to said he may have had a similar problem and changing his hardware profiles somehow may have fixed that.
Additional info, I am using a powered docking station, then use the "undock" command to disconnect and go mobile.
In the meantime, I'll use the standby function which works fine..
Thanks
